Did you know that there are over 100 different types of hearing technologies available today? Have you ever felt like hearing aid advertising is deceptive, misleading, or too muddled to allow you and your loved ones to make informed decisions about your own health?

Hearing loss is as unique to each person as a fingerprint. No one person has the same type of loss in each ear, nor do people experience hearing loss the same way. And when hearing loss is left untreated, there are direct and indirect consequences. Some people with hearing loss think they hear—and understand—perfectly well. Others assume that the loss is part of aging. Some people with hearing loss simply can’t afford hearing aids. Some worry that hearing aids will make them seem old. While these people are concerned about money and appearances, their hearing loss is not only getting worse, it’s also becoming a hazard to other aspects of their life and health. In the workplace, untreated hearing loss contributes to underperformance. More than half of people with hearing loss are under age 60—prime working years—and they are the least likely age group to get hearing aids. Hearing loss should be accommodated as routinely as other disabilities. It’s no different from being nearsighted or having high cholesterol. We wouldn’t think of ignoring those, and if we did it could be at our peril. Continue with the high-fat diet, don’t exercise, and refuse to take a statin, and you may end up with a heart attack. Fail to use sunscreen and you may end up with melanoma. Continue to ignore your hearing loss and put yourself at risk for falls and dementia.

The ears and brain communicate together to help process sounds clearly and replicate them for speech. When you lose certain frequencies, that communicative pathway is interrupted and impaired.Untreated hearing loss  may actually influence and change the way their voice sounds all together. Own voice sounds soft, and start to speak louder and louder to compensate for it. Shouting is now speaking. This is something many may not realize they are doing, and for many it takes hearing aids to realize just how loud they’ve been talking.Untreated hearing loss might be making enjoyment of movie impossible. So much time is being spent trying to understand what is said that eventually people lose track of what’s going on, and might decide to give up.

Hearing loss can hurt work performance in a variety of ways including difficulty hearing at important meetings or on calls, trouble interacting with employees at work through conversation and missing important auditory announcements. Untreated hearing loss can also lead to listening fatigue at work, affect a person’s ability to focus and retain information, and impact attitude as stress and lack of energy become overwhelming, all of which can be detrimental to overall production.Restaurants, bars and other loud, group environments make it difficult not only to hear but also to understand what is being said and who is speaking. Untreated hearing loss can thus become a stressful issue for not only the one with untreated hearing loss but for that person’s friends and loved ones. Over time, this may even lead to the person with untreated hearing loss to become isolated and avoid social events.

Hearing Aids are not glasses
Unlike your eyes, ears do not instantly adapt to assistive devices like hearing aids.Every hearing aid  however new the model be, needs to be programmed and adjusted to suit a person’s particular lossing order to achieve the benefit you are paying for.
Glasses, like some hearing aids are available online now, however you don’t see opticians going out of business, your hearing is in many ways even more complex a biological process than your eyesight, some hearing aids may not even be the right one for you, however small and attractive they may appear.
At My Audiologist you are with a provider who does not play favourites, we will find and prescribe the correct aids for you while taking into account your cosmetic requirements as well.Hearing aids need tuning and adjustments, to optimise its benefits, a qualified Audiologist can be invaluable in this regard.
